Sustainable Landscaping, Gardens, and Irrigation Solutions

As landscapers, we consider ourselves stewards of the Earth. It is our responsibility to take a sustainable approach, as much as we can, depending on our clients' needs and ideas, when working with the earth, nature and landscapes. We also take a personal responsibility to educate others about the importance of preserving our planet.

Rain Garden and Harvesting

Once a rain garden or swale has been created, it will detain, purify and slowly release water into the groundwater supply for an indefinite amount of time making it a long-term solution to our storm water problems.  Trees planted along a swale will grow quickly, providing shade to the soil and further improving the ecology of the site while the deep layer of fibrous roots helps to purify the water as it travels down the soil column. Maintenance costs are minimal and a smart landscape design will take advantage of perennial plants versus energy-intensive turf grass.

Some rain water harvesting landscape elements we install are:
  • Rain Gardens
  • Above and Below Ground Rain Catching Systems)
  • Swales
  • Permeable Pavements (Driveways, Walkways, Patios, etc.)
  • Detention Basins

Organic Vegetable Gardens and Greenhouses

A sustainable vegetable garden means a garden that can be sustained over time, and would involve:

  1. Growing food that you like, need and want to eat so that you enjoy the final product.
  2. Requires the absolute minimum physical work so that you don't get burned-out.
  3. Contributes to the natural eco-system, instead of damaging the eco-system, so that the Earth can support your garden naturally.

We can provide specialist that will design, install and maintain a sustainable vegetable/herb garden if you choose.

Some of the Garden Elements that ALL-N-1 Landscape can Install:
  • Raised Beds
  • No-till Sheet Mulch Beds

Native and Edible Landscaping

Native plants are those that were growing and evolved naturally in a particular area before humans introduced plants from distant places.

Benefits of using native plants:
  • Native plants save energy: Native plants have evolved and adapted to local conditions over thousands of years. They are vigorous and hardy, so can survive winter cold and summer heat. Once established, they require no irrigation or fertilization. They are resistant to most pests and diseases. Thus, native plants suit today's interest in "low-maintenance" gardening and landscaping.
  • Native plants stay put and attract desirable wildlife: Each native plant species is a member of a community that includes other plants, animals and microorganisms. The natural balance keeps each species in check, allowing it to thrive in conditions where it is suited, but preventing it from running amok. Thus, native species rarely become invasive, as plants introduced from other areas can be. Native plants provide food and shelter for birds, butterflies and other desirable wildlife. Many help to enrich the soil. Their root systems help rainfall percolate into the soil, reducing erosion and runoff. This improves water quality.
  • Native plants are interesting: The diversity of native plants includes interesting flowers and foliage. Native shrubs and trees provide a variety of heights, shapes and textures in the landscape. Many provide winter interest through their bark or seed pods. Another dimension of native plants is their historical and cultural interest. Many species have reported value as food and/or medicine.

Green Roof Landscaping

The environmental benefits of turf and green roofs are widely recognized, while roof gardens and roof terraces provide much-needed outdoor space in urban areas.

Due to the high degree of insulation that they provide, green roofs are known for their ability to provide an extremely constant temperature throughout the year. During the winter they keep the heat in, and in the summer they provide a relatively cool environment. Turf and green roofs also provide habitat for insects and other wildlife.

Spiritual Landscaping

We live in a society that is losing its' spiritual way. We find it hard to find inner peace and the extra dimension to life that gives us joy, energy and strength. We want to turn back to the land to rediscover that spiritual dimension.

We work with the elements to encourage harmony and balance, strengthening it all with specific plant combinations for rest, healing, protection, stimulus, psychic work or ceremonial use.

Some of the spiritual landscaping elements we install are:
  • Medicine Wheels
  • Feng Shui Designs
  • Labyrinths
  • Meditation/Contemplation Gardens
